ABSTRACT

Single photon emission computerized tomography/computerized tomography (SPECT/CT) hybrid imaging devices consist of combined imaging systems which enable SPECT and CT imaging by using the same imaging bed at the same imaging session. Therefore it is possible to obtain both pathophysiological information from SPECT imaging and morphological information from CT imaging at the same time. The superiority of SPECT/CT imaging systems is that the lesions can be localised much more accurately and easily and that attenuation correction can be performed with use of CT imaging. Recently, SPECT/CT hybrid imaging systems have gained wide use with various indications in nuclear oncology among which bone scintigraphy, I-131/I-123 scanning and sentinel lymph node imaging.are the leading indications. This guideline is aimed to provide satisfactory information to SPECT/CT users with regard to indications, procedure techniques, interpretation and reporting. There are increasing number of studies in the literature which state that SPECT/CT hybrid imaging is more successful compared to stand-alone SPECT and CT imaging.
