ABSTRACT
As the life expectancy of the human has increased in the recent decades, dementia has become an important public health issue. Although the diagnosis of dementia is based mainly on clinical findings, imaging is also helpful in the differentiation of underlying causative disorders. Magnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice in the first radiologic evaluation. Computed tomography may also be used if there is a contraindication for magnetic resonance imaging. In this review, general principles of radiologic evaluation of patients with dementia are presented with findings of disorders that may result in dementia.
