ABSTRACT

After the invention of radioactivity, nuclear energy has been used in two different ways. For the favor of humanity, nuclear technology is used in different industries but mostly for the human health. For the human health, radionuclides were first applied in the therapy of cancer, which resulted in the foundation of science of nuclear medicine. The first radionuclide that is used for radionuclide therapy is radioiodine (in thyroid cancer). Radioiodine therapy for thyroid cancer is an ideal model for contemporary targeted cancer therapy. Its use has led to the development of contemporary concepts of theranostics, targeted therapy and individualized therapy. The development of radioiodine therapy could be possible by bringing several Nobel prize winner revolutionary knowledge together.
