Ionizing radiation has been used for therapy of cancer for a long time. However, understanding the effect of radiation on tissues and cells has become possible after the production of new knowledge during the last 50 years. For this reason, radiobiology can be considered as a young field of science. In this paper, we will discuss the effect of radiation on cells and tissues and the mechanism of effect of radiation for disease control.
