ABSTRACT

In current cardiology practice, a single imaging technique remains inadequate in the diagnosis of heart diseases and findings from different imaging modalities are combined to evaluate the structure, function and molecular characteristics of heart. Developments in the field of nuclear cardiology have greatly increased the diagnostic accuracy of cardiac diseases and made it an important alternative for personalized medicine. When interpreting the results of a nuclear medicine examination, it is vital that nuclear medicine specialists know cardiologist’s expectations and organize their reports appropriately. This article summarizes main reasons of cardiologists to refer their patients to nuclear cardiology examination and what should be considered in reporting of major cardiac diseases.
