ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women worldwide, accounting for 1.8 million new cases and 1.6 million deaths annually. Although most lung cancers are still diagnosed at a late stage, there have been significant advances in screening high-risk smokers and in diagnostic modalities. In addition, improvements in surgery and particularly among patients considered unfit for traditional
open resection have been developed. Treatment of patients with lung cancer depends upon the cell type, tumor stage, molecular characteristics, and an assessment of the patient’s overall medical condition.
